Next to the palace is the imposing and photogenic Pegasus Fountain. It's particularly popular with fans of the film "The Sound of Music," as the "Do-Re-Mi" song was recorded right here in front of the fountain in 1965.

In Greek mythology, the winged horse 'Pegasus' helps the heroes Perseus, Bellerophontes and Heracles to fly over the sea and thus made their heroic deeds possible. By placing it as an artistic bronze sculpture in a stately fountain, a symbol was used that is intended to indirectly emphasize the strength and glory of those in power. The bronze sculpture of the winged horse 'Pegasus' was originally part of the "Kapitelschwemme" on the "Kapitelplatz", but was later moved to the "Mirabellplatz". Part of the Mirabell Floodplain and has been known as the 'Pegasus Fountain' since 1913 at its current location in the Mirabell Gardens in the small garden parterre. The Pegasus Fountain is a fountain in Salzburg's Mirabell Gardens. The bronze sculpture of the winged horse 'Pegasus' was originally part of the Chapter Flood on Chapter Square, later came to Mirabellplatz as part of the Mirabell Flood and has been in place since 1913 as the 'Pegasus Fountain' at its current location in the Mirabell Gardens in the small garden parterre. The well-known Innsbruck metal caster Kaspar Gras made the work in May 1661 on behalf of Prince-Archbishop Guidobald Graf von Thun for the horse trough on Chapter Square. As can be concluded from an entry from the Salzburg Court Chamber from 1668, the coppersmith Maximilian Röck could also have been involved in the casting. In 1700, Prince-Archbishop Johann Ernst had them moved to what was then the horse trough on Mirabellplatz.
