Partly very coarse gravel, but rideable

A beautifully designed circular trail with plenty to see. Definitely a visit!

Fantastic views of the fjord! The trail markers are clearly visible. However, you'll have to cross several small streams without any assistance, which could be problematic in rainy weather.

Here you stand on part of the rocky ridge formed by the drifting continental plates. Looking east, you can see the "counterpart" a few kilometers further on, on the other side of the valley.

From here you have a beautiful panoramic view of Thingvellir National Park.

Nice side road over the Öxipass with much less traffic than on the Ringstrasse. Quite steep in places on the south side.

Very impressive highland track through the middle of Iceland. Desert and desert-like area. You have to ford rivers several times. You should bring food for the whole route, as you can only buy a few snacks in the huts along the way. In 2016, one of the huts was closed all summer - you have to be well organized or camp wild. The track has many, sometimes steep, inclines. Next time I would definitely go on a mountain bike, not a touring bike. Our sugar cubes were completely crushed by the shaking 😁

A basic supply of food should be carried with you. Not much happens on the way.
