The Blutwiese (Blood Meadow) is a nature reserve worth seeing in the east of Löhne. However, it has been commonly called this since the extremely bloody Battle of Gohfeld, which took place right here on August 1, 1759. This battle was a (secondary) scene of the historic Battle of Minden during the Seven Years' War (1756-1763). A memorial stone commemorates this just around the corner on Börstelstrasse (near the Haus Gohfeld estate). Perhaps more interesting for nature lovers is the nearby birdwatching hut on Blutwiesenweg (Blood Meadow Trail).

The supposed summit cross at the highest point of the Spatzenberg, also called Löhner Berg (96 m, according to Komoot/Open Street Map 101 m above sea level) is actually a memorial. At the foot of the cross, the short inscription reads: "Remembrance Cross. We warn." It was erected in 1954 by the "Association of Returnees" and commemorates the fate of the prisoners of war of World War II. Some historical background: In 1954/55, the last surviving German prisoners of war returned from the former Soviet Union. In 2006, the memorial cross was completely replaced. Those who venture up the steep and somewhat adventurous trail (preferably on foot) will find a wonderful place of silence and contemplation up there.

Aqua Magica Attraction

It is the most impressive work in the AQUA MAGICA park, unique in Germany: the water crater - a walk-in, underground fountain sculpture that showcases the power of the brine springs. You can descend to a depth of up to 18 meters and experience how the water shoots up with impressive force. If you want to watch this spectacle up close, you will inevitably get wet. The water crater represents the brine springs drilled in Bad Oeynhausen, which would shoot up to 40 meters into the air without stopping. The water crater is intended to artificially recreate the impressive power of water. It was built as the main attraction for the Aqua Magica state garden show. While the site is now free, the water crater is the only part where you have to pay. Adults pay €2.50 for access to the crater and the water gardens. Every 20 minutes there is a 4-minute performance, which unfortunately has to make do without sound. The fountain used to be wetter than it is today. Usually you only get a few thick drops and the spray. You should still visit the water crater - just for the impressive structure and the height of the fountain.

Sounds and light effects emerge from the underworld. A staircase spirals down 18 m into the earth's interior, directly to the source of the magical water. There, with the concentrated primal power of the brine springs, a 30 m high water fountain shoots up - a symbol of Aqua Magica and visible from far away.
