This was once the coal port of the Min. Achenbach colliery. The coal was transported by colliery railway from Brambauer to the port on the Dortmund-Ems Canal and loaded there onto canal barges. Unfortunately, the loading crane and the harbor master's buildings have been demolished. The railway line continued towards Dortmund-Mengede station via the bridge to the north. Unfortunately, there is no cycle path there yet. The bridge and railway line are closed.

🚂The Hympendahl Bridge viaduct was built between 1891 and 1901 in the Romanesque style.🚂 The two spans are 30 meters long, 24 meters high, and 4.50 meters wide.🚂 It once served, after the capacity of the Schallacker spoil heap was no longer sufficient— and a new disposal site was found at the Hympendahl spoil heap—as a transport and connecting route for the slag railway used for the daily removal of slag from the blast furnaces of the Phoenix West site and the Hermannshütte steelworks.🔥⛓️🚂 😲An impressive structure that would be suitable as a film set for movies like The Lord of the Rings *Passage of Argonath* or Game of Thrones.🎬

Dortmund's promenade is a place to see and be seen; it can get very crowded when the weather is nice. However, the bike path is really good, and when it's not too busy, you can really let loose here.

Impressive industrial heritage, delicious beer at the Bergmann, and always plenty of road cyclists to watch on their Strava rides.

I can't really judge whether the harbor is anything special. But cyclists should definitely stop by the area and visit the old boat lift.
