Nordsternpark is a popular destination for sports and culture enthusiasts. This leisure and recreation park opened in 1997 on the grounds of the former Nordstern coal mine and, in addition to expansive meadows, cycle paths and running tracks, also offers adventure and water playgrounds, climbing walls, and a stage for open-air events. During the park's redesign, both the historic mine buildings and the winding tower were preserved, the latter offering impressive views across the Ruhr region from its panoramic terrace at a height of almost 100 meters.
