At Oranjezon, you can see how dunes form and change naturally. Sand blows from the beach to the base of the dune. The drifting sand is left behind small obstacles like shells or tufts of vegetation. This gradually creates a dune. It then grows, washes away, or moves through drifting sand. At Oranjezon, you can see many stages of dune formation, making it a Geological Monument. A beautiful coastal cycle path, mostly through rustic forest. Many good restaurants in Domburg.

The beach is so wide at low tide that you feel like you have it all to yourself 😉

In the thirteenth century, the salt marshes at Vrouwenpolder were reclaimed. The dune landscape was formed by drifting beach sand from Domburg. In the centuries after the reclaiming, the area was used for rabbit warrens and water extraction. This shaped the area as we know it today.

A beautiful cycling route through nature.

The area is quite varied, between dunes and coastal forest. It's exciting to see how the oaks become smaller and gnarled the closer you get to the sea.

It's a very nice ride through the forest. It's completely off the main roads, from Domburg towards Vrouwenpolder.

Very nice cycle path along the edge of the dunes through nature reserve De Manteling. The nature reserve extends from Domburg to the Veerse Gatdam. The path mainly goes through the forest, on hard-packed sand paths, but also with beautiful views of wet meadows and dunes. Have already seen rabbits and deer in the surrounding forest. In the vicinity of Domburg you will find some beautiful properties such as Kasteel Westhove, more or less hidden in the forest. If you would like to take a break on the way, you will also find some nice snack bars with a beer garden.
