Yxnås Nature Reserve is a beautiful expanse of natural grassland between Alingsås and Vårgårda. It contains Fennoscandian species-rich grasslands, hay meadows, and a wet meadow. There are multiple buildings you can explore, including a soldier's torp from the 17th century. Well worth stopping if you're hiking the Gotaleden trail.

Beautiful section of the trail through the nature reserve. The biodiversity is particularly varied here, and you may spot kingfishers, white-throated dippers, beavers, salmon, trout, and even moose. The river alternates between rapids in the ravines, and calm, open pools. The dense forest gives the trail a fairytale-like feel.

The Säveån Valley between Lerum and Floda is one of the most scenic sections of the Gotaleden trail. You'll walk along the peaceful banks of the river, through forest and meadows, surrounded by a rich and varied wildlife. Look out for kingfishers, beavers, and the unique Säveån salmon, as you walk through the Säveån-Hedefors Nature Reserve and the Säveån Nature Reserve.

The 289-meter-long footbridge through the Congo swamp is part of the Nolhagaviken nature reserve. It allows for safe crossing and at the same time protects the special alder bog habitat. The swamp forest area has been called Congo since the 1960s and is a recognized EU Natura 2000 area due to its high natural value. The vegetation consists mainly of birch, alder, hornbeam and ash trees. Many bird species nest here.

Idyllic place on a rocky outcrop, with a beautiful panoramic view of the super clear lake. There are also a few fire pits and even small bivouac huts for sleeping in a sleeping bag. There seem to be small huts for rent nearby, just a few meters away.
