No, swimming or bathing is not permitted in Lac de la Lauch. Located in the Vallée de la Lauch, Lac de la Lauch is a reservoir fed by the Lauchbach stream, which flows in and out. It serves as a source of drinking water. The valley, with its meltwater streams running along the mountain slopes, is relatively rich in water and features shady forests.

The Hartmannswillerkopf is one of the four great national monuments of the First World War. Composed of an altar, a cemetery and a crypt, it is also distinguished by its unique setting overlooking the plain of Alsace. The Lac du Ballon owes its name to the summit at the foot of which it is located, the Grand Ballon, the highest point in the Vosges. Embedded in a glacial cirque, it offers a setting of all splendor, the reflections of the sun making its surface shimmer in an alternation of shadow and light created by the rich surrounding vegetation. Although natural, it is forbidden to bathe there because it is used to supply water to the valley.

This is one of the most easily accessible lakes in the Vosges by car, taking the same road as that leading to the Markstein. Ideal for a family picnic, it is however forbidden to swim there, as for all the dam lakes of the massif.

From its 1272 meters high, the Petit Ballon is certainly one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the Vosges massif. Its vast expanse of high stubble and the absence of adjacent summits allow it to dominate the landscape at 360°, and in particular the plain of Alsace to the east with the Black Forest in the background. The ideal place to admire the sunset, especially since several farm inns are within walking distance to enjoy a delicious marcaire meal and/or spend the night. Less touristy than the large Vosges ridge facing it, the Petit Ballon provides an authentic mountain feeling, with its Tibetan flags, its statue of the Virgin and its Vosges breed cow farms.
