The Col du Grand Ballon from Moosch is 12.6 km long with a total drop of 949 m. The average gradient is 7.6% with maximum gradients of 14.5%. There are stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The climb is often included in the Tour de France.

The Grand Ballon is the highest Vosges mountain (1424 m). It is located in the Ballons des Vosges nature park of the same name. Nevertheless, it is not the highest point in the Vosges that can be reached on asphalt, as the road unfortunately does not lead all the way to the top, but around the bare summit on the north and east side. So this title belongs to Hohneck.
But the balloon offers ascents with a considerable difference in height and degree of difficulty. You have the choice between numerous variants of different characters and hardness. With the two south-west ramps, the balloon also has the two heaviest chunks of the Vosges in its program, and almost no traffic at that.
