This pass called the Paso de los Franceses is located on the track to the veleta just below the Mulhacen 2 pit, from here we can see the fabulous views of the entire sierra, the veleta, the horse and several lagoons. precautions due to the danger of slipping and falling down into the empty ravine since in this section the track narrows and a lot of ice accumulates, even crossing with crampon and ice ax is complicated when there is ice, especially at dawn when the snow is very hard and icy, but throughout the morning with the heat the snow melts and the sections of ice change.

Mostly good asphalt (2023), little traffic and a great, impressive landscape. We recommend.

Popular legend tells that a deputy campaigning for La Alpujarra asked the people of Pitres what they wanted for their town. They asked for something impossible, perhaps out of distrust of the usually unfulfilled promises of politicians. But the deputy managed to get away with naming a mountain pass here, even though the locals had actually asked for a sea port.

As high as you can go by bike around here. The air is pretty thin here, in the Alps I never had any problems up to almost 3000m, here the altitude sickness started just below the summit. When the sun goes down it gets pretty cold pretty quickly, and windy (that's why the mountain is called the "weathervane"). Definitely worth the effort in good conditions, but a ride up here is not to be taken lightly. At the end of the public street there are various snack bars, so it makes sense to get something to eat. Behind it, minibuses may drive through the sometimes tight curves, so be careful here as well.
