One of the largest beech forests in all of Europe.

This pass is on the border between Spain and France, at an altitude of 1,337 metres. It forms part of the Camino de Santiago and has been the protagonist of numerous legends, among which are the passage through here of the armies of the Emperor Charlemagne and Napoleon.

Delimiting the Spain-France border, this pass is an ideal place to take a break and enjoy the wonderful landscape of the Selva de Irati. A few meters from here there is a water source and some small buildings that can serve as shelter if you need it.

A classic in the area of the Navarrese Pyrenees, the tour of the Irabia reservoir runs along very picturesque paths and roads among a dense grove of trees that makes it the ideal tour for the summer months.

It is a picturesque path that runs around the beautiful Irabia reservoir within the Roncesvalles-Sierra de Irati park. A very pleasant place especially in the summer months, where shade abounds.

It is mandatory to go to the Selva de Irati when you are in Navarra, especially during the autumn when the leaves turn ochres, yellows and reds. It has the largest beech and fir forest in all of Europe.

In the Battle of Roncevaux on 15 August 778, a Basque force defeated Charlemagne's army at the Roncevaux Pass, a high mountain pass in the Pyrenees. This happened at the end of Charlemagne's campaign on the Iberian Peninsula. According to the classical version, the Carolingian rearguard was ambushed and the leader Roland was killed. The epic Chanson de Roland is based on this, except that the attackers are changed to Saracens. Historically, it is at most possible that the Basques were reinforced by Muslim troops.
