It is a typical Basque town in the Navarrese Pyrenees where we stopped to eat some tapas after walking the Irati Xterm route in the opposite direction. We were on a terrace enjoying the sun after a day of lots of rain, fog and cold on the French side. It was worth the stop and recovery before facing the last port of the day.

Villanueva de Aezkoa, or Hiriberri in Basque, is a Navarrese town located at the foot of the picturesque Mount Berrendi. The town stands out for preserving several old granaries and for being an entry point to the magnificent Irati jungle.

Simply wonderful! A unique place with incredible panoramic views of the entire Irati River valley and beyond. It is a very picturesque and photogenic place in itself, just be careful to take the classic photo sitting on the top of the cliff, you have come all the way to enjoy the views, do not take unnecessary risks.

From 1403 meters above sea level the views are simply amazing. The cliffs provide clear views given their geology and on days with good visibility you will have the best postcard views of the Pyrenees, both on the French and Spanish sides.
