Amazing little find whilst on the walk... makes you wonder!

Amazing 360 views from the summit, which features a trig, toposcope and a rocky outcrop if you fancy a very small scramble for views from the edge.

Lovely little walk in the woods on a nice little hill.

The 'Gun' Hill at 385m near Leek is a trig pointed UK designated Marilyn. Not a bad little hill to do.

A pretty little trig pointed hill near Congleton where everybody in the whole world goes mountain biking I think. Funny little animal farm there too! It is a designated UK Marilyn.

Go to the gate of Hopestone Cottage and you will find a public footpath marker on the left of the gate to enter.

The Cloud is a prominent hill on the Cheshire/Staffordshire border. One of the highest points for miles around, the summit affords wonderful views over Congleton, Macclesfield, Holmes Chapel, and Greater Manchester. According to legend, a giant king once stood with one foot on Shutlingsloe and one on the Cloud. When the giant stepped-off the Cloud, his shoe got stuck and it became the rocky summit.

From here you can see out over the Cheshire plain, including Jodrell bank. There is also a metal plaque showing directions and distances to a number of both local and national landmarks.

Yep. It’s a great place with good views .. and 🤫 quiet ..

It's a fun activity to try and spot landmarks using the toposcope.

If you are blessed with a clear day, Jodrell Bank and Mowcop are easy to spot.

I have read that the 2 arches are tufa arches. That is, made of a soft, porous limestone.

An awesome dolmen to which is attributed healing powers should one lie within it. Legend would have it that the local hermit, Gawton resided here.

Since visiting here, I have watched a video in which this feature was referred to as 'Gawton's Cave'.

This highlight has a story to it that will explain the name I have given it (I couldn't find a name for it when I researched after the hike). I was looking for Gawton's Stone (after briefly reading a couple of weeks ago that one could enter into it and cures have been claimed) and my eyes drew me to the rock forms on a bank on the opposite side to this. I hastily began ascending and I pulled a muscle in my right calf so I limped up and limped back down in frustration. I saw this formation on the other side so I thought I might as well get to it before I have to abort the circuit and go home. I was 100% convinced this was the rock. I sat inside it in awe and enjoyed the sounds of the strong winds that only seemed to be there and then I descended. It was a few strides later that I realised I was walking normally. With amazement I continued my walk in complete comfort. When I got home and looked at pictures of Gawton's Stone, I realised that this awesome rock was not the one.
