正しい名前はHill Hoath Hollowayです。近くの集落にちなんで名付けられました

村の名前の由来は、村の外れにある「Chiding Stone」と呼ばれる大きな砂岩の岩層にあるというのが一般的な説です。Chidingstoneは、村に使われていた以前の綴りでした。ナショナル・トラストは、この名前がシッダ家の家「Chidding tun」に由来する可能性の方が高いと考えています。12世紀には「Cidingstane」と記録されていました。この石は、傲慢な地元の妻たちを懲らしめる場所、ドルイドの儀式の場、またはアングロ・サクソン時代の境界標として使用された可能性があります。

Given its proximity to Hever Castle – the birthplace of Anne Boleyn – you can imagine Henry VIII riding through this holloway as you walk through it. An eery, magical and beautiful sight

Great place to walk or cycle

Four lakes form the heart of the garden and at the end of the line of sight the Gothic castle rises on a hill. While you can explore all the paths in the garden and the adjacent parkland, the house is privately owned and cannot be visited. The design of the park and the expansion of the house were initiated by John Holroyd at the end of the 19th century. He and his wife spent a fortune to design the property according to their ideas. The park and garden were further designed according to the original plans by subsequent owners. Finally, the National Trust acquired the site and now looks after it. Harrison's Rocks are a superb example of the sandstone outcrops which are found across the High Weald. There is evidence that Stone Age people sheltered amongst these rocks. For many years, there has been a strong climbing tradition in this area.
