The artwork is not a classical figurative image, but an installation in the public space that links to the cultural history of the place itself, an ode to a historical fact. The Sandstone Monument was erected in memory of the sandstone extraction. It was unveiled on August 25, 1978. The sandstone monument is a vertical stone of 4 meters high, is 1 meter in the ground and weighs 8 tons. There are traces of fossils.

A first ‘living’ hop monument was erected at the request of the Heemkundige Kring De Faluintjes. It was unveiled on 2 September 2006 by Yves Leterme (then Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture) and in the presence of Mayor Annie de Maght and Mr. Abbot Benedictus Verschelden of the Affligem Abbey. In September 2018, a new ‘living’ hop monument was inaugurated; it was designed and built by artist Jean Bernard Koeman. The intention is that living hop vines will grow around this iron monument.
