Popular legends linked to its origin and age gather around the Rovere di Tiglieto. In fact, it was said that it had been planted by Napoleon's troops during the Italian Campaign. Other sources report that a horseshoe bearing the symbol "N", the imperial monogram, was nailed to the trunk of the plant. It is said that a Dragoon of the French army, passing through the area and forced to change his horse's shoes, wanted to leave a sign of his passage. Some old people in the town say that as children they saw iron sticking out of the trunk. Today, on the surface of the trunk, there is no longer any trace of it, perhaps completely incorporated into the bark.

Mount Beigua (Munte Beigua or Mount Beigoa in Ligurian) is a mountainous relief in the Ligurian Apennines, 1287 m high above sea level, which rises on the Ligurian-Po Valley watershed. It is the highest peak of the so-called "Beigua group", which includes the nearby Monte Grosso (1265 m), Monte Ermetta (1267 m), Bric Veciri (1264 m), Monte Avzè (1022 m).

The summit of Monte Reixa is the meeting point of the territorial borders of the municipalities of Genoa, Arenzano and Sassello. Here the view takes your breath away and on clear days Corsica can be glimpsed.

Spectacular panoramic point over the port of Genoa, the Maritime Alps and, on fine days, the Island of Elba and Corsica.

It's worth making the climb. 1183m from the coast, 10km long... exhausting.

From the Masone toll booth on the Voltri-Alessandria motorway, turn towards Genoa for the Turchino tunnel. After passing the tunnel, turn left, then left again following the signs for the Faiallo Pass where we leave the car. Our Hiking level walk has a total travel time of about 3 and a half hours. We pass in front of the La Nuvola sul Mare hotel where a dirt road begins that descends for a stretch towards the south. We arrive near two obvious houses in the woods, the Palazzina Tassara dates back to 1935 and its history is still unknown. We continue left uphill among the beech trees where the path climbs up to meadows dotted with boulders. We thus arrive at the Vaccaria Pass, its name derives from an ancient seasonal shelter for cattle. We are just under 5 km from the beaches of Arenzano and it is the point of the Apennine-Alpine chain closest to the sea.

Crazy panorama that shows how blurred the borders are. A ridge that divides the Sassello area from the sea!

Beautiful view of the sea and Savona-Vado Ligure up to Capo Noli. Ascent from Varazze "technical" and hard: almost 19 km with 1280m d + with the first 6 km (up to Pero Alpicella junction) with moderate gradient (never above 5-6%), then up to Alpicella with slopes at 8% and passage to Alpicella up to 11-12%. After Alpicella the road becomes very narrow and with gradients of over 10% (even sections 13-14%) for about 6 km. The slope then tends to stabilize at 7-8% with sections still at 9-10% up to the summit of Beigua. From Alpicella (with fountain for supply) to the summit all in the woods with rare exposed sections. At the top there are no fountains but there is a bar / restaurant. The descent towards San Pietro d'Olba is just as technical with the aggravating circumstance of a road surface in poor condition for long stretches. Pay close attention.

The peak, like a rounded one, covered with meadows and flowers, is at the junction point of the municipalities of Genoa, Arenzano and Sassello. Due to the characteristics of the mountain, access to the summit of Mount Reixa is a hiking itinerary without particular difficulties. The quickest access route is from the Faiallo pass, with a short walk. It is possible to insert the summit of Reixa in longer, circular itineraries, starting from different locations in the municipality of Genoa (for example Sambuco or Fabbriche) and also covering sections of the Alta Via. I reached it from Passo della Gava with great satisfaction and a breathtaking view all along the way.

The megalithic road appears as a paved avenue, bordered by a row of majestic beech trees and flanked by mighty stone walls. The north wall is made up of boulders that are now almost completely demolished, while the wall towards the valley is formed by a succession of triliths buffered with smaller stones to form a continuous wall. The path ends at a circle of side by side stones, at the center of which there is a boulder oriented towards Mount Greppino. The path is characterized by many peculiarities that suggest Celtic culture and that presuppose the use of the path for ritual and religious purposes: for example, the orientation of the path, which reproduces the path of the sun on the day of the summer solstice and the use of triliths. Downstream of the "Megalithic Road" there is a beech forest; the growth of beech at relatively low altitudes, where mixed forest prevails, represents an unusual phenomenon, probably favored by man. Going back along the mule track, you can instead make a short digression towards Monte Greppino. The path, developing in an open environment, allows you to admire a splendid panorama, and to observe some characteristic elements of the landscape. Along the way, outcrops of serpentinites, serpentinoscists and schistose prasinites are clearly visible. Monte Greppino is a bare and rocky relief, known since ancient times for its characteristic of attracting lightning. The mountain, because of this property, was considered sacred by the ancient inhabitants of the area.

A beautiful view of the Ligurian Gulf, the Apennines and the Piedmontese Alps. On clear days you can see Corsica. Please note that if the shelter is closed there is no free access water. There are no fountains !!
