Enchanting artificial lake at the foot of Rocciamelone

The trail is very difficult to find, starting from the first water crossing, but especially between points 4 and 5 (note: I hiked in the opposite direction). I lost the route several times and had to climb very dangerously to finally reach the cave! Komoot didn't clearly indicate the route, and the hiking GPS also showed this route... So extra preparation is necessary! A truly beautiful area!

The Sacra di San Michele is an abbey perched on the summit of Mount Pirchiriano. From the 12th to the 15th century it experienced its best period becoming one of the main centers of Benedictine spirituality in Italy. Today it can be visited and, after climbing the 243 steps, from its summit you can enjoy a splendid view of the valley.

Dam lake very well known and frequented by many people in the summer period, but parking for motor vehicles is subject to a fee (rate July and August 2024: €5 on weekdays and €7 on weekends)

Once you reach the upper hill of Malanotte, go up following the cairns carefully, trying not to lose sight of them. It is easy to leave the unmarked path and end up on stony ground, making the route more difficult. The climb is very steep and on a gravel path which makes it a little slippery, and for these reasons it is classified as EE. However feasible, I recommend two sticks which help a lot.

The trip is beautiful and the peak panoramic. it is signposted up to the pass; from there, follow the last white signs that lead to a path with cairns towards the summit. The last quite steep section has gravel and unstable stones. Sighted several ibexes.
