Schilling's Giant Sequoia 🌲 - Near the Dünnbach Hut - Shelter with barbecue and rest area - Rammert 🌲🏞🌳 Information Panel: Schilling's Giant Sequoia This giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron geganteum) was brought back as a seed in a small wooden pot from Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada, California, by Forestry Director Ottmar Schilling (Head of the Forestry Office in Rottenburg am Neckar from 1966 to 1995) during a forestry study trip to the USA in 1964. His wife germinated the seed on a windowsill that same year. Due to family moves, the sapling was dug up several times in the garden and finally planted in this meadow in 1978 as a 14-year-old, approximately 3-meter-tall sapling with a root ball. The initial difficulties in establishing the trees were overcome with the careful tending of the responsible foresters and forest workers. Tübingen District Forestry Office

A small, stone-encased fountain near a bench, accessible via a small set of steps. Originally dating from the 17th century, the fountain was restored by Alfred Lohmüller in 1959.

This little fountain is somewhat hidden behind a seating area. It was first mentioned in the 17th century and restored in the 1960s. A small stone staircase leads to the small fountain.

From Weiler, take the steep meadow path up. Now in winter, the Rappenberg is a great toboggan run for smaller kids. The view is fantastic. The best view of Dettingen is from the Martini hiking trail.
