The Schneidried is a survivor. It thrives in moors that are very poor in nutrients and wet all year round, especially over so-called lake chalk, and often shows groundwater discharges there. Although this type of vegetation is extremely species-poor, its rarity makes it one of the most ecologically interesting in all of Bavaria. In agricultural litter meadow management (production of bedding material for livestock stables), Schneidried was undesirable.
