The Horn is a spur on the high bank of the Isar River. Thanks to the tree-cuts, there are views stretching from Schäftlarn Monastery to the Zugspitze. A beautiful shrine still stands on the Horn.

From Höllriegelskreuth S-Bahn station, walk to the Grünwald side, then along the Isar to Georgenstein. <Back to Grünwald along the high bank

The cycle path from Hohenschäftlarn leads through beautiful forests and lovely villages, partly on the high bank of the Isar, partly along the river, as far as the Ludwigsbrücke near Grosshesselohe. Below Baierbrunn you pass the Georgenstein in the Isar. This rock is a glacial boulder and you can find a few like this in the forest on this path. Immediately afterwards, below Buchenhain, you pass the Isar weir. The cycle path then goes onto the high bank of the Isar near Höllriegelskreuth and from there on to the Ludwigsbrücke near Grosshesselohe. The ups and downs on the path so far add up to as many meters of altitude as a mountain tour ☺️. On the way to the Ludwigsbrücke there are many viewpoints over the opposite right bank of the Isar, past the Old Holy Spirit Church in Pullach and the impressive forest on the BND site and Schwaneck Castle.

In order to enable fish to migrate upstream, a rough ramp was created in the bank area. This is a 40-meter-wide sloping area on which the flow speed is reduced and quiet zones are created through the clever placement of large obstruction stones. The Georgenstein, formerly Georgstein or Georgenfels, is a large boulder in the river bed of the Isar east of Baierbrunn in the district of Munich, which protrudes around five meters high out of the water. The stone represented a feared obstacle at the time of rafting on the Isar. On the rock itself there is an image of Saint George at the top. 👍
