Beautifully situated in the forest

Nävsjömossen is a nature reserve in the municipality of Norrköping, west and north of Lake Nävsjön. The area has been protected since 2013 and covers an area of 182 hectares.

The Nässja Shipyard is located in Nässja in Vadstena Municipality. The shipyard is part of a larger cemetery on the Nässjö peninsula jutting into Lake Vättern. It was discovered and excavated in 1953.

Take a moment and take closer look at the lake shore on the opposite site. You can see dramatic cliff wall rising from the lake. On a calm day, the lake acts like a mirror for a stunning picturesque view.

Since the Viking Age, the rapids of the Motala Ström have been overcome by towing boats through them with the help of horses. This practice is documented in rock carvings.

Three thousand years ago, people in the Bronze Age carved patterns and figures into the smooth rock slabs that are found here on the headland between the sea and the large inland lake. Most of the figures carved into the rocks in Norkoping are located in Himmelstalung, around 1,660 have been found. You can see more than 600 ships and other drawings.

Hällristningar i Himmelstalund is one of Scandinavia's largest concentrated rock carving sites with over 1,700 stone carvings.
