Very idyllically situated, a beautiful sight. A lovely, ecologically valuable piece of nature in a beautiful landscape. A beautiful biotope, a real eye-catcher. There's a bench by the pond where you can take a break. Nature! Green duckweed is not algae and is not harmful to the pond. In fact, it indicates that everything has been done correctly in the maintenance of this village pond and that the pond is in biological balance. Duckweed is also known as duck grass because it is a favorite food of ducks and other waterfowl.

As part of the River Landscape 2024/2025 project, the Brandenburg Friends of Nature conducted an excursion to the oxbow junction near Breese with Jens Martin, a specialist at the State Office for the Environment. The Stepenitz is a key landscape component of the Prignitz region and a major, largely near-natural tributary of the Elbe. Between Perleberg and its confluence with the Elbe near Wittenberge, the Stepenitz is relatively structurally poor. As compensatory measures for the dike construction, two oxbows near Breese were connected in 2023 to improve the structural diversity at this location. Jens Martin explained the importance of river restoration and presented the measures implemented.

The bench by the village pond is located directly on the bike path for this section of the route. It's an idyllic setting, the perfect spot for a relaxing rest.

Nature! Green duckweed is not algae and is not harmful to the pond. It even indicates that everything has been done correctly in the care of this village pond and that the pond is in biological balance. Duckweed is also known as duckweed because ducks and other water birds like to eat it. A wonderful experience for nature lovers!!

Now it's no longer an eye-catcher, everything is covered in green algae. Just a big green patch.

Gutsteich Hoppenrade, here rises the Cederbach, a tributary of the Karthane.
