古いVispは丘陵地帯に発展しました。なぜなら、約150年前まで谷底では繰り返し洪水が発生していたからです。ローヌ川とVispa川は改修、拡張、そして運河化されました。これにより、地域全体が開発可能になりました。高台に建設されたもう一つの理由は、オーバーヴァリスに対する戦争の圧力でした。環状壁のある高台では、より良く防御することができました。13世紀と14世紀のいくつかの火災と、1518年の大火災は、Vispのほぼ全体を破壊しました。そのため、1518年以前に建てられた家屋はごくわずかしか見られません。

Rosswald lies on a relatively narrow ridge at 1,800 meters, high above Brig. The paved road ends in the center of the village, around which many chalets nestle. Two restaurants (Parkplatz and Adler) directly in the village and two more just outside (Fleschboden and Bortelhütte) offer stunning views of the Rhone Valley and the Bernese Alps opposite, inviting visitors to stop for a break before or after their ascent. As early as the 1950s, this sun-drenched village was made accessible by cable car. The artificial lake just above Rosswald is a popular spot, used in winter for artificial snowmaking on the ski slopes and in summer as a rest area. Several official mountain bike routes also pass through Rosswald, such as the Valais Panorama Bike (Route 81) and the Rosswald Bike Route 780.

The historic irrigation canals in Valais, seen here, are called "bisses." They were built to supply the pastures and fields with water from mountain streams.

Vispの街の遥か上方には、素晴らしい眺望を誇るVisperterminenがあります。この地は先史時代から人が住んでおり、1715年には4つの村が合併して現在の自治体となりました。 Visperterminenの特別な点はブドウ畑です。石積みのテラスには1,100メートル以上の高さまでブドウが栽培されており、Visperterminenはヨーロッパで最も標高の高いブドウ畑となっています。ハイダとは、サヴァニャン種から作られる白ワインの名前です。

The mountain village of Visperterminen at the entrance to the Vispertal valley is known for its white wine Heida (a Savagnin), which grows in one of the highest vineyards in Europe.

I was lucky enough to marvel at more, less, or all of the viaduct as the clouds drifted by, changing the view every second. It's truly impressive what they built back then, given the circumstances. 👌🏻 There's a picnic area above.
