🌾 **Étang du Tivoli – Nature Break near Volmerange-les-Mines (Wallingen)** The **Étang du Tivoli** is quietly located on the edge of **Volmerange-les-Mines** (German: **Wallingen**) – a small, natural pond surrounded by meadows, field paths, and sparsely scattered trees. 🐦 The spot is a popular stopover for walkers and cyclists, often visited by herons, ducks, and other waterfowl. A small bench invites you to rest with a view over the water. **Tip:** Ideal for a quiet break on a tour through the Lorraine border region – especially beautiful at sunrise or late evening light.

🚧 **Barrage du Lac du Mirgenbach – The Technical Heart of the Lake** At the southern end of **Lac du Mirgenbach** is the **dam (barrage)**, which serves to regulate the water and cool the nearby **Cattenom Nuclear Power Plant**. The facility is not open to the public, but is easily visible from the paths around the lake. 🌊 The dam marks the transition between technology and nature: Here, the water flows in controlled channels, creating an exciting interplay of industrial function and scenic tranquility. **Tip:** Those who walk the circular path around the lake have a good view of the dam from the eastern shore – particularly interesting for technology enthusiasts and landscape photographers.

The Bois de Coulange lake is a 3-hectare lake surrounded by a forest area which offers various activities such as walking, cycling, picnicking and pedal boats. Access to the lake is only on foot or by bike, to ensure a peaceful atmosphere. You can also rent a Segway, a self-balancing electric vehicle, to explore the forest trails. The lake is open from April to September and has a small restaurant on site. The Bois de Coulange lake is an ideal place to enjoy nature.

The canal allowed boats to reach the port of Metz. This was installed until the 20th century outside the ramparts. The track installed on the banks of the canal is a pleasant and ideal walking area for families.
