Imposing bridge over the Aare. The Wohleibrücke is a road bridge built in 1920 over the Wohlensee near Bern. It connects the communities of Frauenkappelen and Wohlen. The arched bridge was built at the same time as the Kappelenbrücke by the Bernese power plants, when the Aare was dammed for the Mühleberg hydroelectric power plant.

You can drive through the Bremgarten forest on the Wohlenstrasse, which is car-free. On a distance of around 3.5km, you have to overcome 70m of elevation from Hinterkappeln to Bern. But you hardly notice this at all, as the fresh forest air and the beauty of nature keep you energized.

The transmission mast is on the Bantiger, a mountain 947 meters above sea level. located elevation, east of Bern. Weather permitting, you can enjoy a fantastic 360-degree all-round view from the viewing platform. Access is always on foot, as the road is used exclusively for rescue and maintenance work on the facility and for forestry. There are parking spaces immediately in front of the driving ban. However, these are booked up very quickly when the weather is nice / weekends / holiday season and a large warning sign clearly draws attention to the fact that "parking outside the marked parking areas" will be severely punished. So plan your visit to the Bantiger accordingly, at best on weekdays or in winter, when it's freezing cold, snowy and icy (then visibility is also much better - because of the lack of haze)! Or you can travel by train > e.g. from Bern main station with the suburban train RBS to Deisswil station (my recommendation) and hike up in about 90 minutes. Remember, there on the viewing platform there is almost always a draft, from moderate to (mostly) strong to stormy, the tower is completely exposed! A head for heights would be ideal, reasonably good shoes are not wrong and if you have trouble climbing up the lattice walkways and stairs, you should think again > the view down is really tough. At the foot of the tower there are several seating areas and fireplaces as well as a public toilet facility. In addition, the gastronomy is not neglected, a vending machine is tempting (for those who can't resist it or didn't have enough liquid with them). The routes are so diverse that it makes no sense to recommend which side to go up from, as they are very individual and dependent on performance. Trained people will love / hate the stairs, the leisurely ones prefer the street and the insatiable will stalk the countless secret paths... there is definitely something for almost everyone. I won't go into the bikers here. From racing donkeys to MTBs, everything is usually represented and there are also enough exciting trails. Tip: Sunrises / sunsets are terrific. This way you avoid the hustle and bustle during the day and have the tower almost to yourself!
