Nice glamping for those who like to treat themselves to a slightly more luxurious camping weekend on Ameland. The tents are snugly tucked away between small dunes, which also makes your glamping tent look very nice.

From the observation hut, you can certainly observe many interesting birds. But I was equally impressed by the seven swift nests, which were busy feeding the predators.

You are standing on the highest dune in Ameland: the Oerdblinkert. It is part of the Oerder dune complex, a centuries-old group of dunes. At a height of exactly 24 meters you will find pure nature, most of which is maintained by it Fryske Gea in cooperation with the Dutch Road and Water Authority. You mostly let nature take its course. An example is the dynamic formation of dunes: In the event of a storm surge, the North Sea can force a breakthrough in the young dunes on the north side and thus has free play in the areas behind it. This area, which is surrounded by the sea on three sides, is scenically characterized by a beach, old and young dunes, sandbanks, muddy bottom and an extensive, overgrown foreland. Around 60 bird species breed in this eastern tip of the island. During the breeding season and high season, this area is guarded and can only be accessed accompanied by a guide or via the signposted hiking trails. Oerdhut, a weather shelter in the eastern part of Ameland directly at the entrance to the viewpoint "Oerd Blinkert". What is special about the refuge are the inscriptions of the visitors (no graffiti) on the wooden boards. I always take some time to take a closer look at these ... who was here when with whom ... , the oldest entry I saw was from 1982 and then expanded annually well into the 2000 years.
