The peace, the tranquility and beauty of the retreat centre is amazing and so welcome after a long ride. There are three cabins in all with varying facilites, but all container a basic alter, shrine, yoga mats and the like to enhance your solitary retreat experience. I took my camer and various lenses with me, as I was looking forward to delving deeper into my creative journey. Huge mountain cabin with 80 beds 🙈 but perfectly located... there's even a grill

Beautifully located mountain hut on the summit of Mt Pirongia. 20 mattresses and some tent sites. Reservation required on the DoC website.

This is a busy hut with 80 bunk beds so it can be noisy but the two bunk rooms are separate from the kitchen area. It does have a BBQ! The Pinnacles summit is only a 30 min walk from the hut and requires climbing up rocks with the help of metal foot holds. If you plan to have lunch at the hut before heading up to the summit the hut may be locked so don't plan on using the cooking facilities.

About 10km from the trail head or Kinloch, shelter and camp spot. There is a long drop toilet and non-potable water available from the lake.

This is an un-walled shelter, along with grassy areas to pitch tents and a long drop toilet. It is well maintained. Pros sleeping under the shelter, you don't get a wet tent when it rains. Cons... really hard floor! The lake is great for swimming in with very pretty views to the south.

The most modern hut I have seen in New Zealand. From here it is 45min to the pinnacles (Pinnacles).
