Very nice, nostalgic railway from 1899. Small price for a pleasant overcoming of many meters of altitude!

The nostalgic mountain railway takes visitors to the foot of the 110 m high Reichenbach Falls. Opening times: May-September Tickets are purchased from the conductor before departure. There are also combination tickets for the Aare Gorge, the Sherlock Holmes Museum and Monster Scooters.

The nostalgic Reichenbachfall Bahn, which has been in operation since 1899, leads from Meiringen to the roaring Reichenbachfall. The viewing terraces offer a breathtaking view of the 120 meter high, rushing waterfall. The world-famous fictional character Sherlock Holmes died at the Reichenbach Falls after a fight with Professor Moriaty.

The entire mountain landscape in which the water falls to the valley is impressive.

Thanks to a fictional story, the Reichenballfall has become a celebrity. Because here at this point the most famous detective Sherlock Holmes fell in the fight with his archrival Professor Moriarty in the Reichenbachfall. The author and inventor of the detective Arthur Conan Doyle wanted to end the writing of other Holmes stories with this story, but he underestimated the large fan base. There were funeral services, protests and even threats. Ultimately, thanks to a friend, Doyle was persuaded to continue writing novels and short stories featuring the famous detective. A little literature tip: If you now want to know how Holmes survived the supposed fall into the Reichenbach Falls, you should read the short story "The Empty House".
