This is a great and challenging trail. I encountered many other people walking it with dogs.

This junction connects the AFT to the 3.67-mile Shingle Mill Trail, which follows the beautiful Black Moshannon Creek into the heart of Black Moshannon State Park's recreation area. The trail ends at Black Moshannon Lake Dam, one of the park's highlights. The lake is known for world-class trout fishing, a fantastic beach, and a swimming area, making it an excellent detour, especially on a warm summer day.

State Game Lands #176, also known as The Barrens, is one of many state owned lands managed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission for hunting, trapping, and fishing. However, many other outdoor activities are available to visitors as well. Keep in mind that during hunting season these other activities can be restricted. Please check local sources for exact dates for hunting season closures.

Black Moshannon Lake, located within Black Moshannon State Park, is a stunning 250-acre lake known for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities.

The Star Mill Trail is one of two trails open to bikes in Black Moshannon State Park, the other being Sleepy Hollow. It's an easy ride through the forest and along the shore of Black Moshannon Lake. The short distance and easy terrain make it a great option for beginners.

This 6,000 acre park sits along the shore of the Foster Joseph Sayers Reservoir, which was formed by the damming of Bald Eagle Creek. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, boating, and more. The small town of Howard is nearby for supply runs.

Black Moshannon State Park provides access for a few outdoor activities across this 3,394-acre landscape. Black Moshannon Lake is one of the park's highlights, where trout can be caught and swimmers can enjoy themselves.

Black Moshannon Beach is a small, sandy beach. A popular time to visit is when the vibrant fall colors begin to turn in the trees. The beach offers convenient bathrooms, a playground for kids, parking, and picnic tables for visitors to enjoy. During the summer, you can take a dip in the water, which has a slight "tea-stained" hue likely caused by harmless tannins.
