Summit crosses have been documented since 327 AD, and modern ones since 1799. Today, they adorn many peaks, especially in Catholic regions. Crusaders crossing the Alps to the Holy Land in the Middle Ages erected signposts for subsequent crusaders, using the Christian symbol they were particularly familiar with. However, these crosses were not yet located on summits, but rather on hills that invited people to pause and pray. Similar crosses stand on mountains today. They primarily served as meeting places for locals. They prayed for protection for their livestock, good weather, or a good harvest. They usually mark the highest point, carry the summit register, and serve as a security feature.

In the opposite direction with the ascent from Rotenthurm it is almost better: the ascent can be done for the most part. Down towards Chli Morgarten and Teufiwald then on a very nice single trail

The most spectacular route to this great panoramic mountain begins in Sattel. The path leads partly exposed over a rock face as a natural protection of the canton of Schwyz.
