Brauntal Nature Reserve. Totally remote and off the beaten track. Please enter with due respect and great care. A beautiful, small pond serves as the focal point and is home to thousands of amphibians. A trail can be circumnavigated. Here, everything remains as it stands, falls, or lies. Therefore, you may have to step over fallen trees. As always, enter at your own risk. On my recent visit, I heard a deafening frog and toad concert. Brilliant.

"The Saarbacherhammer got its name in the 18th century when the Saarbach was dammed to form the mill pond in order to drive the hammer mill next to it using hydropower. This is where the pig iron from the Nothweiler ore mine was processed. In 1904, Josef Bauer bought the hammer mill with the mill pond and the adjacent properties at auction. The hammer mill was converted into a sawmill, which only ceased operations in the 1990s and was sold." The area is protected to preserve rare plant and animal species and their habitats in the water and siltation zones of the moor-like area.

After a year, I was back in this small nature reserve today... Unfortunately, there's hardly anything left of the pond. It's almost completely overgrown and has lost a tremendous amount of water. It's a real shame, especially for the many deer and wild boars that live there.

It's a shame that the one by the lake is very private
