In front of the park is a French garden with ponds, flower beds and statues, which extends to a series of ponds that receive their water from the Voer.

As a walking park and gateway to the Sonian Forest, the Red Monastery forms a whole of architecture, forest and nature reserve with a very great wealth. The centuries-long presence of one of the largest Augustinian priories in Brabant naturally left its mark on the landscape. But also the nature of the soil and the abundance of humid zones still make it a place with a magical aura today. The Park of Tervuren, also called Warande, is 225 ha in size, the ring wall is 7 km long, 8 ponds follow each other around a higher part from which 8 avenues start, which were constructed by Charles of Lorraine. A number of these ponds were given names: Gorsvijver, Bijvijver, Molenvijver, Vossemvijver, Grote Vaart, Kleine Vaart. The so-called 'zevensterre' in the Warande reflects the geometric design, characteristic of the classicist style that prevailed in the 17th century. The Gordaalmolen in the Warande domain, also called Spaans huis, is a renovated whole from the 17th century. The Tervurenlaan was also constructed in 1897 by order of Leopold II, which created the connection with the Jubelpark in Brussels. This avenue was planted with several rows of chestnut trees, both in the central strip and along the outside of the separated lanes. The name of this so-called Gordaalvijver comes from an old hamlet that existed in Tervuren in the early Middle Ages: Goordaal (goor means marshy). The hamlet was relatively small and located northeast of the then Warande, which at that time only reached as far as the nearby Gordaalmolen. In addition to the mill, the hamlet also included the Goordaalhof after the first known owner Jan Van Goordaal (1334). This court came into the hands of the lords of Rotselaar in the 15th century, which is why it was called Rotselaarhof from then on. Inventory of Immovable Heritage: Watermill of Gordaal, https://id.erfgoed.net/erfgoedobjecten/42795 In other words, you are also on the border of the historic Warande, as the park of Tervuren is also called, and that disappeared hamlet, Goordaal. The Gordaalvijver is located west of the larger Vossemvijver. The highlight was positioned in the middle of the bridge that you find here. It separates the Gordaalvijver from the Kanaalvijver. You can see the Gordaalvijver to the east of you when you are standing on the bridge.
