In the 19th century, the pond contributed to the Abbey Park's function as a spa. Later, residents came to sail there, and in the 1970s, it evolved into a fishpond. Today, there are no fish left, and over 4,000 m³ of sludge was removed. The retaining wall was repaired, the parapet replaced, and a wooden platform was installed. Now it's up to nature. Thanks to several springs, the pond is filled completely naturally and without human intervention. It's the ideal spot to spot frogs, dragonflies, and many other species. Feel free to take a seat on the platform and enjoy the fauna and flora. Nearby is also a bench with a view of the pond and the platform.

Old settling pits of the closed sugar factory in Frasnes, which have been converted into a swampy municipal nature reserve where many water and forest birds have found their habitat. Nice area to walk through!

The fortresses are the last remnants of the former defenses around the city of Oudenaarde and therefore have a great cultural-historical value. They form a park area of 2.7 ha. The natural value of the fortresses is very high. An important part is the elongated fortress pond. There is high-stem wood on both sides of the pond, partly through planting, partly through spontaneous settlement. The area was purchased by the city in 2 phases and fully acquired in 2005. Management is based on the existing potential and maximum nature development. The aim is to preserve the intimate, closed character of the area. With active planting, only regional greenery is used.
