Bianello Castle, located on the Bianello hill in Quattro Castella, Reggio Emilia, is an ancient historical residence linked to Matilda of Canossa. Built in the year 10, it has hosted illustrious figures such as Henry IV and various popes. The only one of the four castles in the area to have reached us intact, the castle can be visited with a guide, and the interior, although furnished with antique non-medieval furniture, preserves frescoes, noble coats of arms and coffered ceilings.

For beginners who have been stuck for a while, it's not so easy. Arm yourself with water, sugar and patience. Unfortunately it wasn't possible to see beautiful things like streams as it hadn't rained for a long time and everything was dry!! But immersed in nature and landscapes.

You enter the crenellated manor from the drawbridge. The fortress is impregnable due to the high walls - defended by machicolations, slits, corbels - inside an elegant Renaissance residence. Walking through the ancient rooms of the Castle of Montechiarugolo, beyond the splendid gardens embellished with eighteenth-century statues from the ducal garden of Colorno, you can admire the halls, tapestries, period furnishings, frescoes and putti spreading flowers.
