A town that is absolutely worth visiting for the breathtaking view of the Gulf of Trapani that can be admired during the ascent and for the beauty of the village.

As you run along the coast of Trapani and pass the Castello della Colombaia, a very special running highlight opens up. The medieval fortress sits on a small island at the western end of Trapani's harbor and is an impressive sight due to its long history dating back to the First Punic War. The view of the fishing boats in the harbor and the majestic walls of the Colombaia make the run particularly atmospheric - especially in the early morning or late afternoon hours when the light softly falls on the scene. When you run this route, you can literally feel the history in the old walls as you escape everyday life on the quieter streets of Trapani. There are no major elevation changes here for runners, making the route a relaxed choice for any training run. If you are a little off the beaten track, you can experience authentic Trapani on your own - it is worth paying attention not only to the Colombaia, but also to the charming fishing boats and the open sea.

This charming, high-altitude town tells its own story through the interplay of narrow streets, medieval buildings and the impressive remains of Norman fortifications. Erice seems like a place that has stood still in time. Even the journey up Mount Eryx by bike is a small adventure in itself. Once up here, you are treated to a view of the town that takes you back to times gone by. The narrow cobbled streets and well-preserved buildings make it seem as if a knight could emerge from around the next corner. Particularly exciting is the mix of legends and history that surround Erice. Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans have left their mark here - the mountain once served as a holy place that was worshipped by sailors and pilgrims. And then there is the Venus Castle, which was built on the remains of an ancient temple. The castle and the views of the surrounding area alone are worth the steep climb. The medieval alleyways invite you to explore, and even though there are a few steep climbs, they are always worth it. Park your bike and let yourself drift - whether in the summer in clear light or on a foggy winter day, the atmosphere is unique.

The Doric Temple of Segesta is impressively embedded in the hills of Sicily and invites not only history lovers to take a walk into the past. The unfinished construction gives the temple a rough look, but that is precisely what makes it so attractive - the columns still have the original protective layer that would normally have been removed after completion. The hiking trail up rewards you with a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape and the Gulf of Castellammare. What I particularly liked: From the temple, a beautiful path leads further up to the theater, which is located on the top of the hill. If you choose to walk instead of taking the shuttle, you will be rewarded with many smaller discoveries and fantastic views. The entire complex exudes a special calm - it is a place that invites you to linger and makes history tangible. The magic of the ancient site can be enjoyed wonderfully here, especially in the off-season, when there is less going on.
