There isn't much else to see here, apart from the Nuragic lake. However, the natural surroundings are absolutely magnificent, making a visit definitely worthwhile.

This is one of the many lagoons that characterize the Sulcis coast. From this dirt road you can reach Punta 'e S'Aliga, a very characteristic narrow promontory of sand that is very reminiscent of the solitary beaches of the Caribbean!

Despite previous rainy days, there was no water in this watering hole. But it is definitely worth making this detour

The Santa Caterina pond appears as a large naturalistic oasis of approximately 700 hectares overlooking the Gulf of Palmas, hosting a precious flora and fauna ecosystem. Adjacent to the isthmus that connects Sant'Antioco to the mainland, this lagoon is separated from the sea by a strip of sand. Over the millennia, the emergence of this sandy cord has delineated the boundaries of the lagoon area, fed by two waterways, the Palmas river and the Sassu river. Pink flamingos in flight will welcome you, adorning the spring landscape with yellow fields of gorse. At sunset, the colors of the lagoon offer even more intense emotions, creating scenarios to be immortalized in evocative photographs.

The Grutt'i Acqua complex is extraordinary, which includes a multi-lobed nuraghe, a sacred well, a village with hydraulic structures, a city wall, megalithic circles and small caves for collecting water. The village extends up to Portu Sciusciau, a possible Nuragic landing place. It is the largest in Sant'Antioco and one of the largest in Sardinia. On the top stands the nuraghe tower. On the slopes of the hill the bases of the Nuragic huts are visible. Where the vegetation is sparser, it is possible to see the perimeter walls of the huts, which were quite small in size. At this point there is a lake basin, an important source of water supply for the village. The banks show clear signs of human intervention with the artful arrangement of blocks and boulders that frame the so-called "nuragic lake".

Between the sea and the lakes populated by flamingos, a show. The road is sandy but not technical, it can be covered with a touring bike or a gravel bike, provided you don't have tires that are too narrow. Enjoy the view and watch out for the flamingos!

Starting off along the beach, the path soon becomes a single trail in between two large ponds. The path is a bit rough on two occasions, but perfectly fine for any gravel or MTB. Look out for flamingos! 🤩🦩
