As you enter Sovana, you'll see the mighty castle. Unfortunately, it has been falling into disrepair since the 17th century.

The Rocca Farnese, located in Tuscia, is an imposing 16th-century structure built around a medieval tower, which dominates the historic center of Ischia di Castro. The palace, unfinished for centuries, was recently restored by the new owner, bringing to light ancient forms and a walled Renaissance loggia. Originally built in the 13th century as a fortress, it was transformed into a palace in the 16th century, perhaps designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger. It was the residence of the Farnese, lords of the Duchy of Castro, and, after the end of the duchy in 1649, it passed to the Apostolic Chamber and various families.

The village of Manciano stands majestically on a hill, offering breathtaking views that range from Mount Amiata to the Argentario. Between uncontaminated nature and medieval history, in Manciano I recommend you visit the museum of Prehistory and Protohistory, or relax in the healing waters of the Saturnia spa.

The old town of Sovana, which is well worth seeing and is situated on a tufa ridge, can be explored in a pleasant way on this quiet street. At the eastern end at the entrance to the village are the ruins of Rocca Aldobrandesca, at the western end the cathedral; in between is the only square in the small town, the Piazza del Pretorio (district court square) with a small church and three small noble palaces. Nice restaurants line the way. For part of the way back from the cathedral, the southern route Via Rodolfo Siviero is ideal - past (sometimes overgrown) gardens and individual houses back to the village square.

The Rocca Farnese di Capodimonte is an imposing octagonal fortress-palace built in 1365 by the Duke of Castro Pier Luigi Farnese. From here you can admire a beautiful panorama of Lake Bolsena and the Bisentina island.

Great view from the old castle, nice streets but the castle is private. You can't go in.
