Enchanting artificial lake at the foot of Rocciamelone

A lake with a massive dam used for electricity generation. It can be reached from several points, the most convenient being via Dietro la Torre lake, starting from Pian Sulè (3 hours by road + 30 minutes on a trail).

Wonderful, challenge yourself, between the mountains, between the waterfalls, you really have the feeling of climbing the mountain, a sense of strength and determination. Getting to the top and breathing was incredible

Unfortunately, the upper lake is full of rotting plants. Swimming is not recommended unless you are a frog. Unfortunately, the smell is not that great either. So I quickly left. The lake near the parking lot looks a little better. The restaurant is a nice place to stay.

Dam lake very well known and frequented by many people in the summer period, but parking for motor vehicles is subject to a fee (rate July and August 2024: €5 on weekdays and €7 on weekends)

The Lago della Rossa is located in the municipality of Usseglio and is the largest lake in the Lanzo Valleys. It is a very beautiful lake, one of the most spectacular destinations in the valley. The Red Lake takes its name from the top of the Red Cross, 3566 meters high, which is reflected in its waters. It was born as a small natural lake, then the construction of the dam, which took place between 1931 and 1934, made it significantly expand and made it, at the time, the highest artificial lake in Europe.
