The Cocora Valley trail, along the Quindío River, is a hiker's paradise. The path is barely maintained, and the bridges are rudimentary; however, this adds a rustic touch to the experience and allows you to focus on enjoying nature in its purest form.

As recently as the 1980s, the district suffered under the so-called Medellín Cartel and became known for bloody and deadly clashes between rival drug gangs. The Medellín Cartel's influence was partly due to the intense social tensions, vast class differences, unemployment, and also the ongoing civil war and high propensity for violence in Comuna 13.[2] Medellín reportedly had the highest murder rate in the world, with more than 380 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants. Nearly 7,000 people were killed in the city that year alone. In 2017, the official homicide rate was around 21 victims per 100,000 inhabitants. That is 18 times lower than in 1991.

The Cocora Valley Palm Forest Trail takes you through the famous wax palms, with sections of rainforest and rustic bridges that make the route very enjoyable. It's an ideal hike to appreciate the Andean landscape, but the terrain can be slippery and muddy, so good footwear and walking sticks are recommended. Perfect for those seeking an immersive hike in nature.

The archaeological park of San Augustin contains the most stone sculptures. Enormous tombs, demons carved from volcanic rock, and an enigmatic cult spring bear witness to a centuries-old advanced civilization amidst lush green vegetation.

This small waterfall on the Quindío River, in the heart of the Cocora Valley, is a tranquil spot surrounded by Andean forest and tall wax palms. The murmur of the water and the lush greenery create an ideal atmosphere for relaxing during a hike in the area. It's easily reached by following the trail that runs alongside the river, and although it's not very high, its charm lies in the pristine landscape and the serenity of the place.
