Enrico Rossi Refuge, highly recommended!

Don't be discouraged by the climb, it's not very long and the arrival is worth the journey.

A refuge with renovated private rooms and excellent cuisine. It's an excellent starting point for various hikes in the area, and the management is very friendly. From the (paid) parking lot, it's about a 10-minute walk uphill to the refuge. The manager, Massimo, is a wonderful person; it's always a pleasure to return!

An excellent rest stop where you can stay in the dormitory or stop for lunch. With a donation, you can get bread, cheese, and a tart, or whatever else they have on hand. Volunteers are definitely available on weekends. In winter, the winter shelter is open in case of emergency. There is no bathroom.

The Shepherds' Festival at Lame di Capraia, in the municipality of Pieve Fosciana, is an event held annually on the last Sunday of July. The festival celebrates the area's pastoral traditions, with traditional dishes, music, and activities for adults and children. The festival recalls the times when shepherds, during the transhumance, gathered here to celebrate the end of the mountain grazing season with mass and a shared lunch. During the festival, you can taste typical Garfagnana dishes, such as polenta incaciata, macaroni, farro, lamb, rosticciana, sausage, cheese, homemade cakes, and neccio fritters with ricotta. In addition to food, there are activities for children, music, and, in the past, even cheese-making demonstrations. In short, the Shepherds' Festival is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the ancient traditions of Garfagnana while enjoying local flavors.
