This artificial lake was created by damming the Turritecava stream in the late 1930s. Its protected location makes it an excellent refuge for birds. Canyoning is possible nearby on the Rio Selvano, a tributary of the Turritecava.

Perhaps the most beautiful part of the entire trek to Monte Sumbra! The passage on the rocks is truly suggestive.

Fraction of Careggine, Isola Santa is a splendid village not far from the Garfagnana. It overlooks an artificial lake, filled by the waters of the Turrite Secca torrent stopped by a post-war dam. The cyclical emptying of the basin brings the half-destroyed buildings of the village back to life.

Pontecosi lake is a hydroelectric basin built on the Serchio river. Along its banks is the small village of the same name, which was originally a castle used to control access to the river. The castle was already in a state of decay at the end of the 13th century. Today, the lake offers picnic areas, fishing spots and a large equipped green area, ideal for relaxing.

This is a thermal lake that is not maintained and swimming is not possible, although the water is always warm. However, the place itself is very impressive, with its peculiar nature having taken over the area.

Too bad, the lake currently (05/2023) has no water, but it was still nice to stroll along the lake again, through the village and further along the Sercchio.

Definitely worth seeing. Very old and very small village, right on the lake with a beautiful dam. A real highlight!
