On the southwestern shore of Lake Garda, a few kilometers north of Desenzano del Garda, lies the small town of Padenghe sul Garda in the fertile Valtenesi region. Over several centuries, numerous castles and fortifications were built in this area, reflecting the fierce power struggle already underway for the wines and olive oils produced in the Valtenesi. The castle ruins, perched on a hill above Padenghe, represent the remains of a fortress built of rubble and fieldstones as early as the 10th century. Originally lacking corner towers, the approximately 70 by 38 meter structure, situated on the gently sloping side of a moraine hill facing Lake Garda, was protected by a ditch. It was probably only in the first half of the 14th century that two square wall towers and two corner towers were added to the curtain wall. The wall on the steeper southeastern side, reaching a height of about 9 meters, remained without towers. After 1330, under the rule of the Scaliger family of Verona, a separate noble castle was built on the northeastern flank, reinforced in the northern section by a round tower 17 meters high and approximately 9 meters in diameter. https://www.gardasee-domizil.de/burg-padenghe-sul-garda.php

Montinelle

beautiful village, located in a bend of the lake, wonderfully kept, with a recent disastrous history from which it is only recently shaking off with the revocation of the honorary citizenship established in 1924.

The view of the Gulf of Salò is beautiful

It's nice to be able to access its interior, I recommend maximum respect because it is inhabited

Salo Authentic town with nice boutiques and good restaurants The elegant, lively town of Salò is sheltered in a narrow bay on the south-west of Lake Garda. Behind the very long, magnificent waterfront promenade stretches the old town with a narrow pedestrian zone and many small boutiques of well-known Italian designers. Excellent fish specialties are served in numerous cozy restaurants. The town of 10,000 inhabitants has always been very wealthy and was first chosen by the Visconti from Milan and later by the Venetians as the administrative seat of the west bank. Despite its charms, Salò is not dominated by tourism today and has retained a very authentic atmosphere. And so you will mostly meet Italian families on the beautiful, long pebble beach on the south side of the bay. To the south begins the rolling hills of Valtenesis with several family-friendly campsites right on the lakeshore.

The interior of the castle is inhabited and “actually” not open to tourists. Very nice location with wonderful panoramic views of the beautiful area.
