The protected area encompasses the Ballertasche gravel pit in a bend of the Weser River, serving as a secondary habitat for strictly protected amphibian species, a small, near-natural beech forest with sandstone outcrops, and an agricultural area in the Weser floodplain. It is characterized by gravel extraction and other mining activities, which have resulted in a diverse mosaic of different successional stages. Two larger bodies of standing water have been created by the extraction of gravel from the fluvial deposits, while numerous temporary small bodies of water have resulted from ongoing operations or deliberate creation.

Currently only passable from the road to the pond! You can only follow the course of the creek for a short time, because then a lot of trees block the way (windthrow)

A little bit hidden directly behind the Starmkehäuschen is a very clear pond that is perfect for dogs.
