The metal steps are part of the hiking trail through the wild and romantic Felsental valley, a section of the Lion's Trail "Geislinger Felsen-Tour." They are located at the end of the valley, where the valley narrows considerably and the rock faces rise steeply. The steps help you safely negotiate a particularly steep section.

Very nice route, the road is not very busy, in the direction of Geislingen the cycle path is gravelled and to the right of the road leads directly past the Roggenmühle, which has very good food.
