The Waldapotheke (Forest Pharmacy) in the Deister hills near Egestorf is a charming, traditional inn whose name derives from a historic shelter dating back to around 1900, which later became a forest inn – hence the somewhat unusual name "Waldapotheke" (Forest Pharmacy). The inn is a popular meeting place for hikers, cyclists, and day-trippers in the Deister hills and impresses with its regional cuisine, cozy atmosphere, and location directly on the hiking trail. The name plays on the word "Apotheke" (pharmacy) and the original rest stop where workers and visitors used to meet for a drink and refreshments – a kind of "prescription" in the forest that gave the inn its unique name.

Following the sudden death of its longtime landlady in December 2023, the Waldapotheke in Kirchdorf has a new tenant. The potato and tarte flambée shop in the idyllic Deister region will officially reopen on June 1, 2025.

If you are on the cycle path from Großmunzel to Ostermunzel, you will come to an impressive natural monument, the Ostermunzel boulder. The boulder lies on the "Hohen Saalfeld", as the Mühlenberg (67.5 m) is also called. The rock was discovered by a farmer while plowing in autumn 2013. It has a circumference of around 10 m, is around 2.60 m high and around 3.20 m wide. Its weight is 27.5 tons. The age is estimated between one and two billion years. The boulder, made of gneiss, probably comes from southern Sweden and migrated to its present location during the Saale Ice Age, i.e. around 200,000 to 250,000 years ago. You wouldn't expect the big pond to be behind the Annastift.

The hut is unfortunately locked, would be nice in winter if you could go inside.

In earlier centuries, today's park area was a moist fen area, which was used to mine clay from the 17th century onwards. The former clay pit later filled with water. This resulted in the originally much smaller Annateich. From 1936 to 1939 the pond was greatly expanded for the park in the local recreation area. The lake consists of an eastern and a western part, which are separated by a dam that is broken in two places. The water is slightly cloudy, the water depth is in the range of 1-2 m. In the western part the water is slightly deeper than in the eastern part.
