The Duckstein Spring is a worthwhile destination. There's much to explore; you'll find a shady rest area and a shelter, and an information board provides you with interesting facts.

Calcareous spring water flows downhill over moss and plant remains. Water evaporates and tiny lime particles settle on moss, plant remains and the subsoil and harden. This creates a very porous rock, "tuff stone". Over time, tuff stone has become known as "duck stone". The forest site and spring are now named after this name. 8 liters of water per second constantly bubble out of the spring. Endangered and protected moss species are native to the spring area. Because of the characteristics mentioned, the lime spring and its drainage area are designated as a natural monument. At the forest car park between Lauenberg and Fredelsloh there are always two charcoal kilns smoking where you can experience the old tradition of Solling live. The four charcoal burners Rolf and Peter Hüholt, Werner Grewe and Walter Gehrke from Lauenberg stack around 80 cubic meters of beech wood into two kilns at the coal yard near the charcoal hut and produce charcoal in the traditional way. The two piles are sealed all around with oat straw and earth. Inside, in the absence of air and at a temperature of around 280 degrees Celsius, the logs slowly char into charcoal. The four charcoal burners are prepared for guests who would like to experience the charcoal burners at work: there will be grilled food.
