Hut is currently closed.

Located directly on the Ungeheuersee, very large outdoor area. When I'm there it's always closed.... I've never seen the hut in use (there are probably only a few days a week here) Managed by the PWV, it will probably be difficult to find volunteers?!?!?! But if you are self-sufficient, you will always find plenty of seating here for a picnic.

The explanation of "norberts" (November 1st, 2017) with the "Italian migrant workers who brought architecture with them" is a variant that persistently circulates in Rheinhessen and the Palatinate, but is not correct. The Laurahütte was built in 1845 by Wilhelm Retzer, district judge from Freinsheim, as a hunting and shelter hut above Leistadt at an altitude of 370 meters in his private forest in red sandstone. The hut was named in honor of his wife Laura. Seats and a beautiful view of the Rhine plain.

The Ungeheuersee in the Leininger Sporn, part of the northeastern Palatinate Forest, is a shallow pond that is fed by the Krumbach. The lake has been protected as a natural monument since the 1930s. It has been listed in the official register since 1971 with the list number ND-7332-195.
