A beautifully quiet mountain

In addition to the Bismarck bust, which once stood above the entrance but has since disappeared and been replaced by the Cheb city coat of arms, the building is decorated with ancient Germanic symbols. On the walls of the stairwell are 43 granite slabs with carved runic inscriptions. These add to the tower's mystery, but contain no mystical messages, merely dedications to Cheb's citizens, praises of Bismarck, and the anti-Slavic and anti-Semitic nationalist Georg Ritter von Schönerer.

The Bismarck Lookout Tower on the 641-meter-high summit of Zelená hora (Green Mountain) is one of only three such towers in the Czech Republic and the last to still bear the name of the former German Chancellor in its official name. The tower was built in 1909 on the site of an earlier wooden lookout tower and named after Otto von Bismarck. This was a time when Bismarck watchtowers, columns, and mounds were being erected throughout German-speaking Europe. There are around two hundred such structures. The other two in the Czech Republic are located on Háj near Aš and on Tanečnice near Mikulášovice.

Idyllically hidden on the Steinhübel is a small chapel that invites you to linger. The Steinbauernkapelle is located on the south-eastern edge of Pechbrunn, just before a hermit's farm. From here you have a wonderful view of the village. The chapel is open every first Sunday afternoon of the month from May to October.

On the 628m high Wartberg there is a small observation tower that used to serve as a signal station for communication. The view is limited, but it is still worth the trip.

The Kohlberg (632 m above sea level) south of Arzberg is also called the Sugarloaf. The 32 m high Waldenfelswarte observation tower offers a wonderful view of the surrounding area. Binoculars and panoramic overviews that can be used free of charge help with orientation. The Waldenfelswarte is the highest observation tower in the Fichtel Mountains.

Beautiful trail over the Steinberg and the Heiligenberg. It goes steeply up and then very steeply down again, sometimes over large stones. So you need to be a little careful. There is a viewing bench on both "peaks". There is even a beautiful view from the Heiligenberg.

The 653 meter high Steinberg is a long hill made of the basalt of an extinct volcano. It lies on the western edge of the Egergraben rift system, which is still tectonically active today. There is a covered rest area at the top. There you will even find a summit book, a Bible and a started pack of cigarettes with a lighter in a small box.
