The "Red Sea" lies between the villages of Mensfelden and Heringen. In 2001, the Heringen fishing club took over the maintenance of the pond and has been looking after the facility ever since.

A wide path leads to this rest area at the former Ahlbach basalt quarry. Basalt was mined here from 1860-1977, after which the area was recultivated - and fenced in... Up here you have a pretty good view of the lake - there's even a mini viewing platform. The beautiful, covered rest area invites you to linger.

The old slider house is a technical monument on the shore of Lake Hertha. The lake was built in 1846 to supply water to the Holzappel pit near Dörnberg-Hütte. Today there is a small park and a swimming pool on the shore.
