A very nice campsite is located here on Krautsand. Just over the dike and you're already at the Elbe River and the beautiful Krautsand beach. There's also a dog beach and a lifeguard on duty during the summer months. A small children's playground and a bistro are available. A large parking area, toilet facilities, and an open-air shower are also provided.

On June 17th, 2024, we asked a woman and her dog for directions. We wanted to know if you could cross the bridge on the Wischhafener Süderelbe by bike. But she didn't know her way around. She was probably on vacation in Krautsand. As we continued our journey, a couple came towards us on their bikes and told us that the bridge was closed. We then rode back with them. The woman with the dog on a leash was still standing on the path and we rode past her. Last of all, my wife. The dog snapped and bit my right calf. A relatively small wound became infected and we drove to the hospital in Flensburg on June 20th, 2024, where we were treated. We were advised not to continue our journey by bike. We therefore had to end our cycling trip. Perhaps someone can provide information about the dog owner or has met her. Middle-aged woman, 45 to 50 years old, long dark hair. Dog shoulder height approx. 50 cm, long, mottled black, brown, beige hair.

The campsite "Am Leuchtturm" is located directly on the Elbe dike. From there you can watch the shipping traffic on the Elbe to and from Hamburg.

Not cold at all, the shallow natural pond. The frogs are the loudest here. Very friendly service from the operator.

River Loft Hotel

The emergence of the Braake is still quite young and, above all, powerful. When one of the worst catastrophes swept across the North Sea in the form of the “Christmas Flood 1717” on Boxing Day in 1717, it destroyed the dykes in many places. This is also the case in many places along the Elbe. The water masses of the Christmas flood brought death and ruin, they destroyed large regions and they created new landscapes.

Very nice campsite. Between sheep and a wonderfully cold lake you can endure it very well.

The Danish King Christian IV had the port of the city of Glückstadt built in 1619/20 at the mouth of the Rhins and the Elbe. The port and city were built primarily for strategic reasons. Glückstadt was an important naval base until 1863 in order to secure Denmark's interests in the Elbe and the North Sea.
